US Investigations Services (USIS)

The US Investigations Services (USIS), a firm that performs background checks for U.S government employees had a breach in their data base. Cyber criminals were able to hack their system to gain personal information on employees with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S Customs and Border Protection units.The information breached included Social Security numbers, education and criminal history, birth dates, information on spouses, other relatives and friends including names and addresses.Officials say the number may increase as the investigation continues.More Information: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/08/22/us-usa-security-contractor-cyb... UPDATE (9/18/2014): "The Office of Personnel Management will not renew any of its contracts
with USIS, the major Falls Church, Va., contractor that provides the
bulk of background checks for federal security clearances and was the
victim of a recent cyberattack, officials confirmed Tuesday evening".USIS conducted over 21,000 background checks per month for the US government and has been under scrutiny since the data breach in August.
